My name is Jeanie I was born in Ruislip Middlesex, and am the youngest of 5. I currently live in Leighton Buzzard Bedfordshire, with my husband and our two children, our daughter was born in 2006 and our son in 2009.
When I found out I was pregnant with my first I had a mix of emotions, excitement, fear and anxiety followed immediately by morning sickness. I attended antenatal classes and remember feeling scared of what was going to happen at 9 months.
Finding out that my husband and I were pregnant for the second time I immediately remembered what labour felt like and my fears started to resurface.
Carrying my children in pregnancy and giving birth (although helped with medical interventions) is the proudest moment in my life. For 9 months it was my job to ensure I was eating the right way (ok I took advantage and ate one too many cream éclairs) and reducing any unnecessary stresses around me.
When I heard the word Doula, I looked into the role and knew it was something I would be passionate about doing. I trained with nurturing Birth, registered with Doula UK and I am completed my recognition process. I became a Doula to give support to women, partners and the family during one of the most important times in their lives. For partners it’s an extremely emotional time seeing their loved ones in birth. My role is to also support partners ensuring they are content and aware of what is happening every step of the way.
As your Doula I will ensure continuity of care with your best interests at heart. I will be with you constantly through your pregnancy and birth no matter how long it takes. When midwives change shift, I will remain by your side.
Your body knows how to birth you just need the confidence and experienced support to understand this.
